Put Your Skills to Practice
Internships are a great way for students to gain hands-on experience in a specific field—offering learning opportunities that go beyond the traditional classroom setting.
In the College of Arts and Sciences, students can earn up to six credit hours through internships. To be eligible, students need to have completed at least 60 credit hours and hold a minimum GPA of 2.5 both overall and in their major. (If the internship is required for your major or you have special approval from your Dean, exceptions may apply.)
If you’d like to earn academic credit for your internship, you’ll need to coordinate with the Kevin S. and Sandra E. Delbridge Career Center before you register. Be sure to complete the internship application and get signatures from your academic advisor, department chair, and the internship coordinator.
Information Technology majors are required to complete an internship, and Computer Science majors may complete an internship as a technical elective. All internships are paid and count towards course credit. The department helps place students in internships, and past internships have included:
- Aided development of the Network Security Policy for the Springfield Police Department
- Implementation of a company-wide upgrade of 1,200 computer systems at MassMutual
- Network intrusion detection at ISO New England
- Support of the complete application development lifecycle at Voya
- Desktop support at Babson Capital Management
- Service desk support for the Office of the Commissioner at Major League Baseball
- Installation of new manufacturing systems to standardize the processing of raw materials at 3M
